Nicely put, Paul!

Perhaps the more we (the public) use tools like Pageflakes, the more notice the established 'broadcasters' will take.

Although even then it may take a world-leader to kick start the revolution.

Having 'advised' (for which read 'not be listened to by') a number of media companies, the problem in my experience is a cultural one. There is a feeling in newsrooms (like in many orgs with a top-down history) that ugc (ugh) is all fine and dandy as a supplement (maybe a Derridean one!). Yes pulling bottom-up stuff in is fine (and free). It's easy to ape Pageflakes and create a portal 2.0, the problem comes in findind creative ways for the two churches to work together. Twittereporters and Seesmicrophone junkies have a lot to learn from pro wordsmiths and hacks and vice versus. But that will only happen when the two cultures loosen up.

It can be done by individuals fairly easily, as proved by the barcamp pageflakes thingy, or for a more professional arrangement, Simon Dickson's OnePolitics site.

Really for events, the organisers themselves should be putting together something along these lines.
